According to some sketchy reports on some sketchy site, the real reason Manny Ramirez wants out of Boston is because his wife does. Manny apparently has a mistress in the area and Mrs. Ramirez wants to get away from her. Here's the part of the story that interests me most. Apparently all the major media outlets in Boston know about this, but no one has gone with the story. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that the newspapers and TV stations in Boston are at least partially controlled by the Red Sox.
Actually Paulie, this was not widely known and had a lot of us laughing. Think about it, forcing a trade only lands Manny is an even bigger city with more trim for the taking. And New York, fuggedaboutit! All of his old high school honies in the Bronx would come calling. Only safe place to trade him to appease Mrs. Manny is Tampa Bay, unless Manny likes 'em good and old.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, the Red Sox control the Globe (NYT owns 17% of the team), NESN, and WBZ (CBS O&O Ch 4/UPN 38, home of Friday night baseball). WEEI Sports Talk Radio also panders excessively to the team, paying Lucchino, Francona, Foulke, and Schilling for regular interviews. WHDH (NBC Ch 7) gets a lot of scoops because weekend sports diva Wendi Nix is married to now co-GM Ben Cherington (I also swear she banged Johnny Damon in his Orlando hot tub during a special shoot, ask me about it some time). My station only cares about the Patriots, and we can't even get those scoops. But we're #1 so no one complains. The Boston Herald actively rips the team for not giving them any access (the Herald being the NY Post of Boston, only shittier). And now you know... the rest of the story.
