I recently got a Facebook friend request from an old friend from elementary and junior high school.
Problem is, she's wearing a fur coat in her profile picture.
I can't in good conscience be friends with someone who wears animals' skin on her back, can I?
As a big animal rights guy, my first reaction was to vote for rejection of her request, which I did.
ReplyDeleteOn further thought, if this is someone you generally like, I say accept her and if the mood strikes, maybe politely ask her why she wears fur. I think in most cases, this is more persuasive than taking a hard line by refusing to befriend someone who wears fur (or eats veal or anything like that, although I would say I'd never be friends with someone who fights dogs or abuses animals).
Damino,
ReplyDeleteHow long have you known Paul? If it is for more than three seconds, you would know that to "politely ask" is against everything he stands for.
Fair enough. The answer to your question is 1988, or 1978 depending on how technical you want to be.
ReplyDeleteDo you consider a message that simply states "Fur is Murder!" to be polite?
ReplyDeleteBTW Damino, this person went to P.S. 23.
