Song of the Week
"I'm Going Down" - Bruce Springsteen I am not a big Springsteen fan but if I had to choose one song, I actually kind of like this one.
You know Poop, sometimes I wonder about you. You're inside my brain or something. I'm currently on a multi-day non stop Springsteen run (via Spotify).
I actually hated him until his superbowl performance to be honest, so my knowledge of some of his stuff may still be weak.
I always thought of Born in the USA and assumed everything was cheesy anthemic songs like that (Still not a fan of that song...although I saw it live in concert and it was awesome, of course) ...BUT, I must admit that his early stuff is blowing my mind right now.
Born to run, The river, and Darkness on the edge of town...the full albums...just crushing me.
Not to get weird and deep but, I think I didn't get him or his music for a long time because I was too inexperienced in life, and didn't really connect with the lyrics. But NOW, holy f'ing sh!t...he's seen into my soul.
Yes, this comment is fueled by 4 hours of sleep and a hangover. Excuse the rambling.
Oh and yes, good song choice...I believe this might be the first time I've heard it.
TON I appreciate the deep thoughts. I kind of agree about Springsteen, and all other sorts of music. When I was younger I liked raps about money and hos. Now I've outgrown that. I don't love Bruce, and don't necessarily relate to his tales of blue-collar workers' struggles. But I definitely agree that as you mature his songs do make more sense.
Added note, while doing research for this SOTW (reading Wikipedia and listening to other Bruce songs), I discovered "Because the Night" was originally his, not 10,000 Maniacs. I felt like such a fool because I often get mad when young people assume some recent cover is the original version because they have no knowledge of music from before they were born.
Good call. One of his very best.
