Wright led off the second inning with a double but Floyd struck out and the Mets couldn't get him home. I've never seen a team fail to bring home so many guys after leadoff doubles.
Got to see an exciting triple by Reyes, those are always enjoyable.
Mets added a couple more runs to take a 4-2 lead then it all fell apart for El Duque in the 6th, which started by walking Bonds. With a 2 run lead, I think they should have gone after him. Pedro Feliz (aka Pete Happy) drove home Bonds with a triple, and then scored on a home run by Elieser Alfonzo (no relation to Edgardo). It was Alfonzo's major league debut, and they spelled his name with an S instead of a Z on the back of his jersey.
I don't think El Duque pitched badly, he just ran out of gas in the 6th inning. I think he might be able to be the 5th starter on this team. The problem is, if Soler sucks, El Duque has to be the fourth starter.
Bonds actually did something in the 9th, singling home an insurance run. The reaction to Bonds was very negative, a lot of booing for everything he did. But I think the rain took a lot out of the fans.
Armando Benitez came on in the and walked Valentin. Castro struck out (tough game for my hero), and then Willie pinch hit Beltran for Milledge. I think he should have let Lastings bat in a big spot, especially because Beltran still would have had a chance to win the game if he pinch hit him for the pitcher. Benitez walked Beltran to put the tying run on first (Mets fans were hoping for a repeat of his days at Shea) but he got Franco and Reyes for the save.
Lastings Milledge earned a star in my scorecard (Shawn would be happy) for his diving catch.
The Mets did get some runs against Matt Cain, but they still lost. The Mets are now 1-4 against rookie pitchers so far this year and Cain has half of his four wins against the Mets.
