Another walkoff win for the Mets almost made the whole day worthwhile. My dad extend his streak of days at the ballpark witnessing a walk off win to four. He was at Friday night's Mets-Yankees, he stayed through 14 innings two weeks before that on a Friday night against the Braves and last year late in the year we saw Cairo win a game against the Marlins in the bottom of the ninth.
I was glad to see Woodward win the game because I like him and like his contributions to the team in all the different positions he plays. It was also his second walk-off win for me. Last year I was at the game he won with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 11th against San Diego. That turned out to be his only home run of the year.
It was also nice to see Milledge come in as a pinch runner and score the game winning run. He's batting only .091 through three game so it's nice to see him be part of the celebration. He made a great slide to get in under the tag.
Tom Glavine looked great once again. I looked back at my scorebook, this is the fourth time I've seen him pitch. He's 1-1, with a 2.89 ERA in those games. The only win was the one in which he gave up 5 runs, last year against the Cubs.
Glavine pitched well but he got victimized by the gopher ball. Jose Vizcaino and Randy Winn aren't exactly huge power hitters.
Reyes helped get the two runs we needed with a single to drive home Chavez then a stolen base which allowed him to score on Lo Duca's single. Reyes now has 28 RBI from the leadoff spot, very impressive.
Kaz Matsui is horrible. He as 1 hit in his last 20 at bats. If I include the 1 hit in the prior 10 at bats, his average goes up. He's batting .130 with runners in scoring position. I know Willie has benched him in favor of Valentin and Woodward but they Mets really need to admit the mistake, pay the money and let Kaz go.
Carlos Delgado had been horrible as well. I was glad to see him hit that huge double in the 11th which set the Mets up to win the game. I was hoping it would go out but it was a few feet too low. He had been 3-44 before that hit with only one RBI since his two homers against the Yankees.
Once again great relief work from Heilman, Wagner and my boy Duaner helped them win. That's an underrated part of the Mets 11 last at bat wins this season. If the bullpen wasn't so good they wouldn't have those chance. Duaner runs his record to 4-0.
Learn Spanish with Professor Reyes: Esta frio means it is cold. Great line from Reyes after one guy said it particualrly well, "that's not fair, you speak Spanish."
Mets Make a Deal: A lady traded in a clock and got the 86 Mets DVD set. A big win for her.
