Cereal Offender
Kevin Garnett is a well-known trash talker who will say anything to get under an opponent's skin. His tactics worked on Carmelo Anthony who completely lost his cool because of Garnett's physical and verbal assault.
Melo tried to confront Garnett after the game, waiting in the tunnel for him to board the Celtics team bus.
Why was Melo so angry? KG reportedly told him that his wife, LaLa tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios. Melo got a one-game suspension for this which I felt was totally unjustified. Melo didn't actually do anything. He may have contemplated something, or attempted something, but like attempted murder, it's unfair to punish someone for a crime they didn't commit. If anything, for infractions actually committed, Garnett should have been whacked.
But at least LaLa has a good sense of humor about it, suggesting on Twitter that they all deserve a check from Honey Nut Cheerios for all the free advertising.

Hope is a Good Thing
"Even a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step." - Ancient Chinese Proverb.
My knee-jerk reaction to the Knicks sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics is not to have a knee-jerk reaction.
Yes, I am incredibly disappointed they couldn't even win a single game, especially after two heart-breakers on the road. I'm more disappointed that after two close games in Boston they came to New York and dropped an egg on the home crowd, being down so much so early the crowd never really got into the game, either game.
Here is why Knicks fans should be heartened: After years of refusal the Knicks finally went with Breaking Bad's "no half-measures" policy. They scorched earth and traded everyone they could. Then they built a new team around Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

Two problems with this approach: Amare's questionable health and the high price paid to get Carmelo.
The Knicks obviously don't have the depth to compete with the better teams in the NBA. And they don't have a good enough point guard to distribute (and defend) though I would have loved to have seen how they did with a healthy Billups.
Here is what they do have: two legitimate scorers. For the long and storied career of Patrick Ewing the Knicks never had a suitable scorer to compliment him.
Note: John Starks does not count because he was a barely literate volume shooter.
Now they have two great forwards who if they can stay healthy and be surrounded by a good core (defensive center, facilitating point guard,) they form the foundation of a potential NBA champion.

And that brings hope to a fanbase that has had no reason to be hopeful in at least 10 years.
But it still sucks to get swept out of the playoffs.

Melo Drama
It seems like the Knicks are close to trading Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph in return for Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and a couple of spare parts.
As much as I love Melo I think the Knicks should stand pat. Yes, there is a chance Melo will panic and accept a trade (and a 3-year, $65 million deal) to the Nets, but the long-term interests of the team would be best served by hoping Melo hits the free agent market.
The fact is, he wouldn’t make the team good enough to win a title this year. So why trade serviceable parts (Gallo, Chandler and even Felton – though he may not be with the team next year) and another #1 draft choice (in 2014) to get him now? The only answer is because after this summer’s debacle Donnie Walsh doesn’t want to come up short once again.
Yes, it would be a gamble to give the Nets three days to reach a deal with Melo, and yes it would be an embarrassment to be wrong, but the prospect of getting Melo for free (essentially) makes that a wager worth making.

Melo Supports Obama
Carmelo Anthony was so motivated by the election of Barack Obama that he told reporters during the shootaround that he would try to score 44 points against the Golden State Warriors.
Barack Obama is of course the 44th president, and 44 is also a special number in Syracuse history.
Unfortunately Melo only put up a Woodrow Wilson.
He did however heed Barack Obama's call for change, recently cutting off his trademark braids in favor of a more close-cropped look.

Melo Gets a DUI
NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hours after his worst game of the season.
The Denver Nuggets forward was arrested on Interstate 25, police said. He was alone in the car and pulled over for weaving and not dimming his lights.
Detective Sharon Hahn said Anthony failed a series of sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI and then taken to police headquarters before being released to a "sober responsible party," Hahn said. Anthony is due in court May 14.
Mark Warkentien, the Nuggets' vice president of basketball operations, said the team was aware of the situation but declined comment. The Nuggets did not practice Monday and Anthony wasn't available. He's expected at practice Tuesday.
Anthony's attorney, Dan Recht, said his client consented to a blood test, but results won't be available for about two weeks.
"Carmelo apologizes to his fans, the Denver community, his teammates and the Nuggets organization for the distraction this is causing them," Recht said.

Melo's Son Can Have His Cake and Eat it Too
A run-in with the law almost spoiled Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan's 1st birthday party.
A Littleton police officer pulled over a 2006 Dodge Magnum for running a stop sign near the Aspen Grove shopping center. The officer made contact with the driver in front of Champps restaurant, 7301 S. Santa Fe Drive.
The driver of the car reportedly apologized to the officer for running the stop sign, stating, "Yeah, sorry, I just left Melo's house."
The officer determined the driver, 46-year-old Daniel Young, had his license suspended due to multiple outstanding charges, including failure to pay child support.
As the officer placed handcuffs on Young, Young asked, "Can I ask one favor? Can I have someone come and pick up this cake? It is supposed to go to Carmelo Anthony's kid's birthday party."
According to police reports, the officer impounded Young's car and "released the cake" to a friend of Anthony's.
Denver Nuggets director of media relations Eric Sebastian said, "That's his (Anthony's) own deal, it has nothing to do with the Nuggets." But he did say that Young is Melo's personal chef.

Melo Not Wanted
According to our spy in Denver, Amber, Melo's new mansion "is in the Columbine Country Club area. Everyone in this neighborhood belongs to Columbine Country Club. Carmelo tried to join and was given a big NO! The members don’t want the club to have that image."

Melo's New House
Apparently, Melo outgrew his old house because he just traded it (yes traded his house) plus cash for a brand new crib. Hopefully our Denver real estate specialist Amber can row over to this new house and get some pictures for us.
Carmelo Anthony bought the sprawling Sognare Estate mansion near Littleton. It was listed for almost $12 million.
He bought the 25,000 square foot home from a former Qwest executive who, as part of the deal, will get his old house in Lakewood.
The home was originally listed at $17 million in 2004, which was then the most expensive house the market, but last year the price was slashed to $11.95 million.
"I heard it sold for less than $12 million," said Edie Marks, a broker with the Kentwood Co.
"It’s a fabulous house on a fabulous location," Marks said. "But if it were in Cherry Hills...it would have sold for $30 million."
While one of the bigger houses in the metro area, Marks said there are even larger ones in parts of Cherry Hills and the Temple Buell Mansion subdivision.
The estate was built in 2002. It includes seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a 5,000-bottle wine center, an 11,000-square-foot barn, hand-cut limestone floors, a Brazilian mahogany paneled library, and a cutting edge recording studio.
But basically, Anthony doubled the size of his 12,130-square-foot Lakewood home, which he bought on April 15, 2004 for $3.5 million.
"This has more space, and (Anthony) liked some of the amenities of the house. It has a little more isolation than he had before and gives him more privacy."
Why does Melo need an 11,000 sq. ft. barn?
And what kind of books will he keep in the Brazilian mahogany paneled library? He already had a batting cage, a basketball court and a giant shoe/hat closet in the old crib. Now he has to commission a contractor to rebuild att that stuff for him. Plus transport his half-nekkid picture of LaLa without nicking the corners. He shoulda just stayed where he was.

This Freakin Guy
The amazing Robert Horry wrote another chapter to his "War and Peace"-esque book of postseason accomplishments.
With about 30 seconds left and San Antonio up 90-89, Horry spotted up in the right corner. Tony Parker drove the lane, dished to Horry, who made a three pointer, over the outstretched arm of Marcus Camby, to seal the game.
The Spurs now lead the Nuggets 3 games to 1, which means another first round exit for Melo, AI and the Freeds.

Melo's House
It's hard competing with LeBron's mansion but Melo's Denver home is pretty sweet.
I wonder how much cooking he actually does in this kitchen.
A pretty cool room in which to play video games. Nothing says class like a half-nekkid picture of your wife over the doorway.
Basketball court in the house. Melo from way downtown, bang!
And he also has a batting cage. Apparently he could have played baseball in college too.
Melo's home theater.
Now that's a lot of hats and sneakers. This looks like Mariah Carey's closet.
Nice robe dude.
Evidently, this is LaLa's room. There's a nice picture of her and no TV. This room definitely has a woman's touch.

Thank You Come Again
Denver police ticketed a friend of Carmelo Anthony's after the man allegedly punched an unruly fan at a convenience store last month.
Melo and his friend Rahchine Craig were heading out of a 7-Eleven store in the 1800 block of South Sheridan Boulevard (I leave those directions in for Freed and Amber) early March 18 when some young men approached.
One of them asked for Anthony's autograph and when Melo declined the guy called him a punk and started arguing with Craig.
Craig allegedly punched, pushed and slammed the victim onto the floor.
When asked Friday night if the report was accurate, Anthony said, "No, man. Hell no. We beat Dallas tonight. I'm not talking about that. We beat Dallas tonight. That's all I'm worried about. We've got Clippers tomorrow. Thanks."

More Troubles for Melo
The yo-yo-ing continues in the career of Carmelo Anthony.
After the brawl with the Knicks I assumed he was due for an uptick. But the Nuggets acquisition of Allen Iverson apparently hurt Melo not helped.
An article in the Denver Post says George Karl may soon bench Melo because he's not listening, not playing defense and he's only interested in scoring (he leads the league).
I won't paraphrase the article like I normally do because it's original thought and deserves to be read in its entirety. Even though it's author is bumbling idiot on TV.

More Bad Luck for Melo
Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith were involved in a fender bender on their way to the team shootaround.
Neither player was injured and both will play against Portland.
They missed the shootaround so they could take care of paperwork following the accident.
Team spokesman Eric Sebastian said Smith was driving one of Anthony's cars but didn't have any other details.
