Song of the Week

"What They Do" - The Roots
I remember when these guys were the choice of sophisticated rap fans. It seems they lost the battle (and rap music is the worse for it) because now The Roots is the house band for the Jimmy Fallon show.
I never loved the Roots but always thought this song was pretty good.

The Universe is at it again.

About 2 days ago, I got into a big Country music kick for whatever reason, and been listening to it non stop. I started thinking about how in general, country lyrics seem a lot more 'real', and relevant, and I was a little annoyed at rap and it's perpetually fake blingism etc etc.

I've never seen this video before, but it's great, and completely nailed my thoughts on the topic. Once again, the power of the Universe theory is strong.

Amazingly this song is like 15 years old and it was making fun of all the things that still exist in rap music today.
But evidently the music buying public doesn't agree with us because TI is on top of the charts and The Roots are the house band for the worst late night talk show in the history of the world.
Bring back "The Magic Hour."

Ha, I just watched Monday's Late Night, and must admit...it was pretty bad. Jimmy Fallon seemed almost too nervous to do it. I'm going to check back tonight, or maybe next week so see if he settles down a bit. Did you see the 'lick it for 10' bit? Worst segment I've ever seen on any show.

And yes...kinda weird and depressing that The Roots are the house band. They made the best part of the show though, which was 'Slow Jam the news'. Might get old if they keep doing it though.
