Doc, Straw, and Cone will always be Mets in my book. Their Yankees days just felt too hired gun-ish. As for Leiter, even though he really only played a couple of seasons in the Bronx, and spent most of his career in Toronto and Queens, has always felt like a Yankee to me. And a complete douche.
When I picture these guys most 2 of them are behind bars, one is grunting on the mound in a Met uniform and the other is winning is a World Series with the Yanks.
Leiter is a Met no doubt. The only one I'd consider a Yankee is Cone.
Cone is a yankee because, among other things, he is an illegitimate adopted child of Steiny-Cakes and Billy Martin. This admission was made during the confidential settlement that allowed steinbrenner back into baseball. Big Stein admitted that all of the firings of Billy were mere lovers quarrels and that he was telling lies for so long, that it was hard to know when it was safe.
I'd say Cone is a Met b/c that's where he became one of the premier pitchers of the game. He had more years with the Mets too. He never wanted to leave, but got shipped off in dumping deals. At most it's about equal.
Does anyone remember that David Cone made a brief (5 start) comeback with the Mets in 2003? I didn't recall this until I saw him on SNY striking out Vladimir Guerrero.
