Instead of trading Lastings Milledge to the A's for Dan Haren instead they dumped him to the Nationals for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.
It once again proves that the Mets have no intention of ever giving a talented young player a chance. They hated Milledge from the beginning and refused to let him develop.
This also shows that the Mets never wanted Johnny Estrada and only got him because it was the only way to get rid of Guillermo Mota.
I hope this means at least that Carlos Gomez will be given a chance to be the starting right fielder this season.

Other than Kazmir for Zambrano this is by far the dumbest trade they've made in recent memory. Both those guys are completely useless.
Totally setting aside long term potential and only looking at what pieces would be needed to acquire Haren, Bedard or Blanton now, is it possible that Church has more trade value than Milledge?
I wonder if Omar was tipped off that the A's, Twins, Orioles etc. were turned off by Lastings' antics, but that a reasonably affordable and mediocre hitting outfielder like Church would be useful as part of a package.
Not defending the trade, which on its face, sucks. I'm just not convinced the motive behind this is apparent yet, and if the Mets get Dan Haren out of this somehow, I think it's worth it.
I am totally and utterly disgusted. How can someone in such a powerful position be so stupid?
Actually, I think Damino is right. I read today that the Orioles tipped Omar off that they would prefer Church to Milledge in a package for Bedard, so that's the only logical reason for the trade. But I reiterate that if we end up keeping Church, it's entirely worthless.
