Never Tell a Lie You Can't Possibly Get Away With

I'm not big on lying other than the occassional fib to Mrs. Poop, but if you are ever going to tell a whopper, a really big fat lie that bears absolutely no resemblance to the truth, make sure there's at least some chance you can get away with it.
High school football player Kevin Hart held a press conference to announce that he had chosen Cal over Oregon.

The problem for Kevin was that neither Cal nor Oregon nor any other school had ever heard of him. He was a 2 star prospect on a scale of 2 to 5.
Obviously, Kevin knew he was going to get caught in this lie, so what did he do when he got caught?
He made up another lie. He said he was promised a scholarship by a shady middleman. And when he got caught in that lie, and finally admitted to making everything up, our overly permissive society turned him into the victim.
The media said that because we put too much emphasis on college recruiting, we make kids who don't get recruited feel badly, to the point where they have no choice but the make up a cock-and-bull story and carry the lie all the way to the dog-and-pony show press conference.
For some kids, real athletes, these press conferences are special, why should they be denied their first chance to get national exposure so douchebags like Kevin Hart don't get their feelings hurt?
And if alumni are interested in seeing these announcements on TV, then why shouldn't they be broadcast? This seems like another complaint by dinosaur sportswriters who refuse to understand that we don't want to wait until tomorrow morning to find stuff out.
The only person who deserves blame in this hoax is Kevin Hart.
And maybe the idiot teachers, coaches and parents who bought his story hook-line-and-sinker and never asked why he never visited any schools or never spoke to any of the coaches.

A guy named Bloi-Dei Dozan did this to Penn State this year, except without the presser. He called fightonstate.com and told them that he had scheduled an official visit to PSU and that he held offers from Kansas St, Memphis and Temple, but that PSU was his first choice. He looked forward to receiving his offer on campus.

THe problem was he had never spoken with any of the PSU coaches. He was a JUCO running back looking to get some press and influence theprocess. Hopefully other schools would have offered him.

Recruiting process is a disaster

Master Bates got in more trouble for lying when he drew on the railing in the basement in red crayon and blamed it on me than this kid did.
