The Pen is Crumbling

The Mets once-mighty pen is falling apart this offseason.
First, Gulliermo Mota got 50 games for the juice.
Then they traded Heath Bell and Royce Ring (no big loss).
Now Chad Bradford is likely to sign a 3-year deal with the Orioles.
Roberto Hernandez and Darren Oliver are likely free agent defections.
That leaves an injured Duaner Sanchez and an unhappy Aaron Heilman to get the ball to Wagner.

Moises Alou is going to need to hit 70 home runs if the Mets don't improve this bullpen.

Paul the Pessimist...

The bullpen is always a crapshoot. Bradford was awful for the Red Sox, brilliant for the Mets. If the Orioles want to take a chance and give him one of those 3 year/9 mil Mike Stanton deals, let them. There will be plenty of arms out there for us to pick and choose from. We still have Wagner, Heilman, Duaner, Adkins, Feliciano and the two guys from Florida. 7-8-9 is locked up, you just need to get lucky with innings 5 and 6... and if we have a better staff, it won't be an issue.

Speaking of which, I am intrigued by the idea of trading Useless Milledge to Washington for John Patterson. That guy has filthy stuff and racks up the Ks... health is always the problem. It would be interesting to see if his injury bug "disappeared" on a good team like so many others.
