Dupe

Convicted killer Richard McNair is stopped by a cop as he is escaping prison. The cop tells him that he is looking for an escaped prisoner. Listen to McNair's conversation with the cop, it's long but worth it.

The escapee's name changed from Mike Sobel to Jay Sobel and the cop missed it

I'm fascinated with this because of the way he brilliantly played the officer, and the way the officer allowed himself to be played.

Most importantly, the officer made up his mind that he was not the guy and he refused to process any information that would indicate that he was. He truly forgot the name he gave the first time. Instead of asking him how he got cuts on his legs if asked if he had run through a briar patch.

The cop decided that because McNair was talking with him and being friendly and calm, and not running, that he must not be the guy.

But an escaped con (I believe this was his third escape) knew how to control his body language (the signals the officer was looking for) but he couldn't control the fact that he actually was the guy the cops were looking for.

McNair is still on the loose.
