Trivia Time

With Ohio State and Florida both being left out of the tournament this year it brings up this question:
When was the last time two teams played in the NCAA tournament final game, then missed the tournament the next year?

If you think about it, it makes sense.

Both teams? Too lazy to look it up. But Florida is the first defending champion to miss the tournament since Kansas was put on probation and banned from the Madness in 1989.

In 1989 however Oklahoma returned Stacey King and Mookie Blaylock and entered the tournament as a 1 seed, but they lost lost in the Sweet 16.

We need both final game teams that both missed the next year.

I'll post the answer here tomorrow.

JLeary is correct. In 1980, after Larry Bird and Magic Johnson left Michigan State and Indiana State both missed the tournament.
I think we may see this trend pick up as almost every freshman worth his salt leaves after one year.
