Another Horrible Knicks Trade

Knicks get Steve Francis from Orlando for Trevor Ariza and Penny Hardaway. Why? I can't envision any circumstance in which Francis will help this team to the playoffs. Or that any team will ever want him from us. This is just horrible. Couldn't we have done something better with the valuable expiring contracts of Antonio Davis and Steve Francis? Marbury, Crawford, Francis, Rose -- shooting guards who don't play defense. This team is going to be horrible forever. Or for at least 5 years after they finally wise up and fire Isiah.

Isiah is the master of turning big expiring contracts into long term big contracts. However, this move does not foreclose other future moves including trading Marbury and/or Crawford and building around Curry, Francis and Frye. Rose will be a hot commodity next year because of his expiring contract.

Concierge, you're smoking crack. Paul is unfortunately right. Isiah blows every chance he gets to deal an expiring contract. Larry Brown wants a true point, and Isiah goes and gets the uncoachable Steve Francis? He couldn't handle Van Gundy in Houston, how do you think he'll do with Larry Brown? I can't take this anymore. Just to make things even worse, the Knicks could really use Adam Morrison, but have blown whatever chance they could have on him with the Eddy Curry deal. Jerome James, Rose, Maurice Taylor, Malik Rose... the list goes on.

Adam Morrison ain't the answer to this team.
I don't like the trade a bit either, but one thing I'll say in fairness is that the Knicks are so far over the cap that getting Penny's contract off the books won't make a lick of difference.
And I agree more moves are coming.

We know the Knicks aren't getting under the cap. But they should be able to get something valuable for their expiring contracts. To be honest, I'd rather they traded for Darko than Steve Francis. They need to stop acquiring veterans who don't fit into a team concept and never have their whole careers. In the NBA you need one superstar, one great player and some good players who know their roles. The Knicks are a collection of me-first guys.

The Knicks are abysmal, and thanks to Isiah, they will continue to be abysmal. Which is why I have no problems with the Francis trade, or the Jalen Rose trade. Before adding Rose, the Knicks had approximately $93 million committed to the 2006-07 season, and that doesn't include Curry's contract. Before Francis and Curry, they have $45 million committed to 08-09. Since they can't get under the cap, they might as well add talent. They can't be any worse with Francis and Rose than they were without. What makes me nervous, is the $50 million in expiring contracts next year.
